EUROP-ART: Art as a Tool for European Citizenship
The EUROP-ART project, promoted by the Cypriot association Vamos, was presented within the framework of the KA122-ADU action of the Erasmus+ programme. It aims to foster European citizenship, cultural awareness, and social inclusion through arts education and international adult mobility.
Founded in 2003, Vamos is a non-profit association that has evolved from a football academy into a multidisciplinary centre engaged in sports, artistic, cultural, and social activities. Today, the organization offers language and IT courses, organizes cultural festivals, art exhibitions, and creative workshops, supports families in need, and promotes civil protection and environmental sustainability initiatives. Participation in European projects has over the years become a key tool for fostering cultural exchange, inclusion, and equal opportunities.
EUROP-ART, with a duration of fourteen months, addresses well-defined strategic needs: strengthening educators’ skills in using art as a vehicle for European citizenship; promoting the inclusion of individuals with fewer opportunities, such as refugees and low-income families; integrating digital tools into artistic pathways to overcome the technological gap, particularly among senior participants; encouraging cross-border artistic collaborations; and disseminating sustainable practices within creative processes. These objectives converge in the aim of supporting participants’ personal and professional development while simultaneously creating cultural networks and stable European partnerships.
The project includes three mobility actions: short-term learning activities in Italy for adults from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, featuring artistic workshops, collaborative projects, and cultural visits; job-shadowing periods in Lithuania for educators and cultural operators, aimed at observing European best practices in arts education and sustainable project management; and group mobility in Portugal, where participants will explore visual, digital, and performative forms of expression while deepening their understanding of sustainability and active citizenship. All activities will be accompanied by evaluation sessions and formal recognition of acquired skills through tools such as Europass Mobility.
EUROP-ART represents a strategic investment in the development of participants’ artistic, digital, and intercultural competences, as well as in enhancing Vamos’ organizational capacity. The initiative seeks to generate a lasting impact by fostering professional growth in the cultural sector, promoting social inclusion, and contributing to the building of a more connected, supportive, and sustainable European society.
