Europe Meets the Middle Ages: Orte and Its Villages Prepare to Welcome Foreign Delegations

Orte is preparing to become the beating heart of European integration and culture. In the coming days, the town will host several international delegations arriving in the area for the conclusion of three major European projects managed by ACe20 (EUROP-ART, Flags of Unity, and SECURE). This initiative intertwines with the work carried out by ACe20 in drafting call-for-tenders for the Ministry of Culture (MIC) on behalf of the Ente Ottava Medievale, aimed at enhancing local history, supporting the local economy, and promoting tourism in the surrounding villages.

In addition to discovering the charm of Underground Orte—featuring dedicated guided tours in multiple languages—and exploring the wonderful historic centers and neighboring hamlets, the true highlight of these days will be the active participation of young foreign guests.

The Young Protagonists: Performances, Art, and Tradition

Far from being simple visitors, the youth from the European delegations will become true protagonists of the historical reenactment. They will fully immerse themselves in town life, dining in traditional taverns open for the Patron Saint’s festival and actively taking part in events.

• The Flags of Unity Performances: The project, which promotes participation and inclusion among Malta, Italy, and Portugal, involves around 50 young people (aged 18–25) in workshops and cultural exchanges linked to the flag-waving tradition. The youth will perform in a highly anticipated show on September 10th at 6:30 PM in Piazza Senatore Manni in Orte, followed by a stage in Viterbo on September 12th in Piazza del Duomo.

• The Historical Parade: The moment of highest integration will take place on September 13th at 3:00 PM. Participants from the three projects will parade dressed in late 14th-century costumes for the Historical Parade of the Seven Contrade, walking through the streets of Orte alongside the local community.

Three European Projects at the Finish Line

The festival in Orte will serve as the backdrop for the conclusion of the three international pathways led by ACe20:

• EUROP-ART: A project focused on hands-on learning and inclusion. Beyond allowing participants to experience the medieval reenactment from September 7th to 14th, it leaves a concrete mark on the city through the creation of a participatory mural.

• Flags of Unity: An initiative aimed at strengthening intercultural dialogue, civic skills, and European identity among young people through art and the local tradition of flag waving.

• SECURE: A path focused on strengthening democracy, social cohesion, and civic awareness within the EU to combat phenomena such as disinformation.

Thanks to the fusion of preserving local traditions, enhancing village heritage, and international cooperation, Orte confirms itself as an ideal meeting point where history meets the future of Europe.
