ACe20 and Lighthouse Languages: An Educational Partnership for the Future

When social innovation meets linguistic expertise, meaningful educational pathways emerge capable of making a tangible impact on local communities. This is the vision behind the partnership between ACe20, an organisation dedicated to designing and promoting social and cultural initiatives, and Lighthouse Languages, a specialist in foreign language teaching through communicative, creative and participatory approaches.

This synergy has led to the development of European projects, children’s workshops and educational programmes where language has served not only as an end goal, but as a powerful tool for fostering inclusion, active citizenship and sustainability.

A Community-Based Alliance

ACe20 and Lighthouse Languages share common roots and a strong bond with the territory. Both operate in Italy’s Lazio region, with a significant presence in the city of Orte, where many joint initiatives have taken shape. This geographical closeness has nurtured direct collaboration built around responding to the real educational needs of children and families in vulnerable situations.

The partnership emerged from a mutual recognition of each other’s strengths: ACe20 brings expertise in participatory project design and youth and cultural policy, while Lighthouse offers a dynamic, creative approach to language education particularly with young learners.

Together, they’ve successfully integrated linguistic content into educational pathways, transforming English into a living language tied to everyday life and the values of civic, environmental and food education. It’s a community-rooted educational model that leverages local potential and promotes inclusion through access to linguistic and cultural competence.

Projects on Language, Citizenship and Sustainability

One of the most impactful outcomes of the collaboration is BioEducare, a programme for children aged 6 to 14 that combines English language learning with environmental, civic and food education. Delivered through non-formal activities, BioEducare is rich in workshops, hands-on experiences and educational outings.

Lighthouse Languages led the linguistic dimension, designing activities that moved beyond grammar instruction to embrace games, storytelling, role-play and collaborative tasks. Thanks to a “learning by doing” approach, children used English in authentic settings, discovering it as a means of communication, self-expression and creativity. Sessions were designed to build confidence, especially among children from disadvantaged backgrounds, and to strengthen their communication and interpersonal skills.

Meanwhile, ACe20 oversaw project coordination, ensuring that methodologies responded to insights gathered from local families and maintained high levels of community engagement.

Shared European Project Design

Beyond local initiatives, the partnership extended to joint design of European projects. Lighthouse Languages contributed its expertise in shaping innovative and transnational educational content, supporting ACe20 in submitting proposals to EU programmes such as CERV (Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values) and Erasmus+.

Three key examples include:

  • SECURE – Strengthening European Communities, Uniting Regions and Reinforcing Engagement: A project focused on promoting active citizenship, democratic participation and social inclusion, in response to trends such as populism and misinformation. Lighthouse contributed by integrating language education as a tool to strengthen European belonging and critical thinking among young people.
  • EUCOMMvsDISINFO: A proposal targeting misinformation and promoting media literacy among youth. In this context, language skills were central to developing communication and interpretation tools essential for navigating the global information landscape.
  • DEMOCRACYWISE: A European initiative to encourage active and informed citizenship through tools, knowledge and platforms that counter disinformation. Written by ACe20 on behalf of Lighthouse Languages, the project seeks to boost civic and digital competence by engaging youth, educators and communities in responsible and informed citizenship pathways.

A Shared Vision: Education as a Common Good

What unites ACe20 and Lighthouse Languages is a shared belief in education as a means of inclusion, empowerment and social change. In this vision, language is not just an academic target, it’s a bridge between cultures, a lens for understanding the world, and a right of citizenship.

Their collaboration shows that accessible, high-quality education can be built even in fragile contexts without compromising on pedagogical rigor or methodological innovation.

Looking Ahead

The partnership is just beginning. Both organisations are already working on new initiatives with the aim of expanding their reach and engaging even more children, families and communities locally and across Europe. Among the projects in development are summer language camps, global citizenship workshops and new international collaborations.

In an era where education demands vision, flexibility and collective effort, the experience of ACe20 and Lighthouse Languages offers a compelling model of synergy between expertise, territory and shared passion.
