The GREAT project was shaped by the desire of Gżira and its partners to create an environment conducive to sharing views on issues related to the European Union. The initiative aims to strengthen ties between Gżira and other municipalities in different regions of the EU by promoting the exchange of experiences in volunteering, particularly on socio-economic and civic issues.
Discussions within the project focus on inclusion and solidarity policies adopted in Malta and partner countries. Inclusion of newcomers in local communities while maintaining the traditional social fabric is a growing issue that requires cooperation and solidarity among European communities.
The municipality of Gżira, immersed in a multicultural context and grappling with the challenges of rapid urban development and immigration, is an ideal starting point for addressing these issues. GREAT offers an opportunity to identify solutions to this crucial phenomenon and to strengthen ties among participating countries. Planned activities aim to achieve integrative outcomes by involving young volunteers, NGOs, youth workers and young entrepreneurs.
GREAT's objectives include analyzing issues related to sustainable development and social sustainability, comparing best practices to solve problems, involving minorities, enhancing volunteer activities, promoting solidarity and cooperation among participants, countering the negative effects of changes in communities, and promoting intercultural exchange.
